Neurocare Staff Profile - Sara Fisher

Sara graduated from Sheffield Hallam University in 1993 with a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy. She then worked at Chesterfield Royal Hospital where she completed her junior rotations and started to develop her skills in Neurological physiotherapy.

Sara has had a varied career in the NHS which includes working with a variety of patients with neurological conditions (both adults and children) in many neurological rehabilitation settings. Sara has attended many courses on the treatment of Neurological conditions, including completing a Basic Bobath course (Adult) in 1999. As part of her career, Sara has worked with many interdisciplinary teams and led on the development of: a hydrotherapy service for people with neurological disorders; a stroke outreach service to facilitate a smooth discharge from hospital to home, with specialist care; a specialist acute stroke service. Sara has extensive experience of working with people who have had stroke, head injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy and Downs Syndrome.

In 2004 Sara graduated from Queen Margaret University College, Edinburgh, with an MSc in Physiotherapy, which she studied whilst continuing her work in the NHS. The focus of her MSc research was assessment of older adults (65 years old and above) who had fallen, particularly where the falls related to dizziness problems.

Since 2005 Sara has been working as a Senior Lecturer in Physiotherapy at the University of Central Lancashire. She teaches across the physiotherapy curriculum, with her specialisms being Neurology and Respiratory care. She also teaches at Masters Degree level and is actively involved in research - her current project is looking at wheelchair accessibility in public places.

Sara is a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (MCSP) and an Assoociate of the Higher Education Academy (AHEA).   She is also registered with the health professionals council. She joined Neurocare in 2008
